Bubbles with a view
Bubbles and Berries is the cocktail theme this autumn at the sky-high Cloud 23 bar in Manchester. Enjoy a taste experience that includes options like afternoon tea, a five-course cocktail menu, or Bubbles and Berries Aperitivo. Perhaps you could start your day with brunch and shopping in the city, before dressing up in your finest to sip these autumn-inspired cocktails from the highest point in Manchester. The views from Cloud 23, discovered on floor 23 of the Hilton Manchester, are wide-spanning, both of the city and the countryside that surrounds it, including the Peaks, Pennines and Cheshire plains.
There’s a great season of theatre ahead, including Sir Ian McKellan in King Lear at London’s Duke of York Theatre until November, The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie, and Harold Pinter’s latest play, Consent. While musicals always guarantee a fantastic night out with classics such as Mamma Mia, The Phantom of the Opera, and Dreamgirls. You can save up to 60% on tickets, plus an additional 10% thanks to your Boundless membership.
Waterfalls in the mystical Brecon Beacons
Ystradfellte is a small village in the Fforest Fawr area of the Brecon Beacons National Park, famous for its hills, waterfalls and caves. The lush green wooded valleys are picturesque and a contrast to the mountainous north. Pack your wet weather gear, a flask of hot chocolate and a map of the route that takes in four beautiful waterfalls. Expect it to take nearly two hours, then afterwards have a meal at the nearby Red Lion Inn, The Old White Horse Inn, or the Pen y Cae Inn, which has its own micro zoo with meerkats, wallabies and pygmy goats among other animals. You can find out more about how to start walking with our four-part guide.
Sing it from the treetops
Take in the many shades of the trees – by swinging from them. Go Ape have 29 sites offering treetop experiences set within majestic forests throughout the UK. If you're feeling adventurous you can fly through the sky on zip wires and take on the tarzan swings, rope ladders, crossings and obstacles with friends. If you're visiting without kids and can avoid school holidays it'll be quieter. Save on ticket prices for Go Ape as a Boundless member through your Virgin Experiences discount.
A windswept day on the coast
Feel the wind in your hair and breathe in the fresh air of the sea at English Heritage coastal properties around the UK. A few of our favourites are Dover Castle in Kent: a Medieval fortress with an underground hospital used in WWII, Tintagel Castle on Cornwall’s dramatic coast with links to King Arthur, and the ruins of Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire – the setting of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Why not try exploring the west coast of Scotland from the air? Loch Lomond SeaPlanes fly you and your friends at a height of between 500 and 5,000 feet over Rothesay on the isle of Bute and takes in breathtaking views of Arran and The Mull of Kintyre.
