Swedish Lapland is perfect for travellers seeking adventure or snow-capped luxury. Whether you’re looking for relaxation, a once-in-a-lifetime experience or a combination of both, here are a few of the breaks you could have…

Authentic Nordic adventures at Brändön Lodge

This charming cabin village overlooks the sea of the Luleå archipelago, with its 1300 islands and just 100 residents. It’s an idyllic retreat and activity centre for couples and families alike.

Activities include a Nordic Winter Skills Tour, where a guide will take visitors into the forests to learn about the wildlife that shelters there. You’ll also be taught how to explore the snow-covered ground on snow shoes, identify animal tracks and make an outdoor fire.

A dog-sled tour is another highlight of any trip to Swedish Lapland. The excitable nature of the huskies, their passion for running and the thrill of traversing the snow-covered landscape is an exciting experience.

As the temperatures fall and the snow arrives, the Bothnian Sea surrounding Luleå’s archipelago turns to ice and visitors can take a snowmobile tour and even try ice fishing.

Prices: three nights from £1950pp based on two sharing/from £1702pp based on four sharing. This includes return flights from Gatwick or Heathrow, transfers, half-board accommodation at Brändön Lodge and all excursions with a guide as detailed above.

A deluxe break at the ICEHOTEL

Begin your three-night trip in appropriate fashion with a transfer from Kiruna airport to the ICEHOTEL by dog-sled, followed by a stay in a deluxe Ice Suite, adorned with unique, specially-carved ice sculptures.

The luxury break also includes a wildlife photography tour led by an expert local guide, a three-course wilderness camp dinner, a Northern Lights tour by private snowmobile and a trapline dog-sled tour with a small group led by a local musher, where you can drive your own team of dogs across the Arctic wilderness.

Prices: from £2365pp based on two sharing. This includes return flights from Gatwick or Heathrow (via Stockholm Arlanda), three nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation at the ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi (one night in a deluxe Ice Suite and two nights in warm accommodation), dog-sled transfer on arrival and shared transfer on departure, plus all excursions as detailed above.

Go wild on the ICEHOTEL and Wilderness Escape

This holiday will introduce visitors to the real Swedish Lapland as they travel from the shores of the Torne river to the rural community of Kangos in the heart of the region.

Surrounded by unspoiled wilderness, where nature thrives and old-fashioned hospitality still remains, this four-night break features a snowmobile tour through the dense pine forests, lakes and rivers of Kangos and a dog-sled tour.

Stay at the original ICEHOTEL and also at the tranquil Pine Tree Lodge (pictured in the top image), where the family atmosphere is warm and cosy and the food is locally sourced and home-cooked.

Prices: from £1170pp based on two sharing. This includes return flights from Gatwick or Heathrow, transfers, one night in an Art Suite at the ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi (half board), plus three nights’ accommodation at Pine Tree Lodge in Kangos (full board) and excursions as detailed above.

A spa break with a difference

At 200km above the Arctic Circle, where the ground is dusted with snow and the trees are adorned with sparkling icicles, the Aurora Spa at Ripan Hotel welcomes visitors and offers a journey through Lapland – its resources (stone, wood and water), its people and the Sámi culture.

A three-night spa break includes free access to the Aurora Spa and a spa ritual experience, featuring an aroma sauna with pine oil, a coffee scrub, a mineral sauna, a footbath with juniper berries, plus the indoor and outdoor plunge pools.

A dog sled tour, snowmobile tour, an Aurora photo tour and a Northern Lights dinner are also featured, along with a moose safari transfer on departure.

Prices: from £1792pp based on two sharing. This includes return flights from Gatwick or Heathrow airport, transfers, bed and breakfast accommodation at the Ripan Hotel in Kiruna, Swedish Lapland, the spa ritual experience and all excursions as detailed above.
