Cunard cruise guide: dress for dinner, historical voyage

With a huge choice of dining and entertainment options on board, you can relax during the day and dress up for dinner

On board a Cunard cruise you can spend the daytime relaxing by the pool, enjoying a meal or drinks, or taking part in the various activities. So you can wear whatever clothes help you to feel comfortable.

As night falls it’s your chance to put on the glitz and sparkles – the dress code for the bars, restaurants and entertainment venues in the evenings is smart attire. Men should wear a jacket or blazer over a shirt or smart jumper, with no jeans or trainers. Ladies can choose from dresses, jumpsuits, or smart separates, and it’s a chance to wear heels.

And if you’re looking for a really special experience, join one of the Gala nights for full-on glamour and the sense of occasion. In every seven days of a voyage there’ll be two or three Gala evenings, to celebrate your time on board. The Gala nights begin at 6pm, and some have a special theme such as a masquerade or a 1920s evening. Men should wear black tie – a dinner jacket or tuxedo, and bow tie or cravat – or their military uniform or national dress such as a kilt; ladies can choose a ballgown, cocktail dress or formal trouser suit.

If you’re in need of a relaxing evening, there are also a selection of bars and lounges that don’t require the same formal wear. But you should still avoid shorts, sandals and sleeveless t-shirts.

Passengers under 18 aren’t required to dress within the dress code for the evenings on board – but it’s still a great opportunity for kids to dress up in their party clothes.
