Expect a warm and friendly welcome and delicious meals, as the hotel has an AA Rosette for their food. There's also ample free parking inside the walled grounds. You'll soon forget all your worries in this perfect location, and be rested and ready to explore!
In the morning you will be transferred by coach to the beautiful and charming city of Ely, locally known as the 'Ship of the Fens', where you'll be dropped off at the Kaleidoscope of Life Flower Festival. Entrance is included to this stunning Flower Festival which promises to be one of the most spectacular events of 2018 in East Anglia. There's loads to see and do, attractions include eye-catching displays, musical recitals, floral demonstrations and a gift and craft marquee.
The festival's creative director is Chelsea Gold Medal winner, Roger Woolnough who was also part of the design team for Westminster Abbey's Festival of Flowers and was the mastermind behind Ely Cathedral's highly acclaimed 2013 Flower Festival. The Cathedral is also home to the only national museum dedicated to Stained Glass and is definitely worth a visit. After you've finished exploring, you'll be returned to the hotel by coach later in the afternoon.
Will start with a visit to the picturesque, medieval rural market town of Saffron Walden, where you will have some free time to enjoy its rich heritage of old buildings. You will then have a choice between two options for today's visits.
Option 1: Audley End, is one of England's grandest stately homes (free for English Heritage members, non-members to pay this entrance locally). The house is truly magnificent and was built to entertain royalty. It has a Victorian Service Wing complete with kitchen, laundries and a dairy. There are beautiful grounds to explore including an impressive formal garden and a working organic kitchen garden.
Option 2: Iwm Duxford, take a step back in time and visit an historic airfield and museum of aviation history, where you can discover the stories of people who lived and worked at RAF Duxford. You can also explore the new American Air Museum, which has been completely transformed. Discover dramatic displays of epic original aircraft, innovative interactives and intriguing new personal objects, many of which have never been on display before! Other exhibitions to enjoy include; Air & Sea, The Battle of Britain, Land Warfare, Air Space, a 1940s Operation Room and much more!(entrance is payable locally).
