Join us for a welcome return to this privately owned modern hotel, built on the site of the East Gate of the Roman City of Lindum Colonia it has a full view of the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral. For those who enjoy history, this is the place for you, as the left hand side of the hotel is part of Shuttleworth house, former home to the industrialist and later the family founded the Shuttleworth Aircraft Museum.

On your stay a visit to the Cathedral is a must! In our opinion it's one of the finest buildings in England. In its day it's huge spires made it one of the tallest buildings in the world. Just a short walk around the corner and you find Lincoln Castle, reopened in 2015 after a £22 million renovation. The castle was built nearly 1000 years ago on the site of the old Roman Fortress, on the orders of William the Conquer.

The Castle has a long and colorful history, including many bloody battles. Most notoriously In 1215 the Barons forced King John to sign the Magna Carta and one of 40 copies were placed in the Cathedral, now only four remain and Lincoln is still the proud owner of its original copy. Take the opportunity to explore around the Castle walls and discover the Castle's grim past, the Victorian prison is exactly as it was in the 19th Century, see where the executions took place and the burial places of the felons. You can also visit the Magna Carta Vaults where the Great Charter and the Charter of the Forest are kept. A dual ticket to both venues for £16 with entry for two separate days, concessions are available for £13 (2017 prices).

There are plenty more places to visit, for a bit of culture why not drop by the Collection and Usher Art Gallery, the medieval Bishops Palace or the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. Or take a stroll down into the heart of the modern city and visit the Brayford waterway right in the heart of the city, with the Fossway, a Roman waterway used to transport Roman soldiers quickly by boat to the city of York. Lincoln is situated on top of a hill where the old part of the city can be found, there are various buses to take you down to the lower city where shops and hostelries can be found.
