A welcome return to this privately owned modern hotel, which was built on the site of the East Gate of the Roman city of Lindum Colonia and enjoys a great view of the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral.
Visit the cathedral, which used to be one of the tallest buildings in the world. If you’re lucky, the choir will be practising as you wander its hallowed halls. Will you be able to spot the Lincoln Imp, a mischievous gremlin carved into the stonework? You’re also just a short walk from Lincoln Castle, re-opened in 2015 after a £22 million renovation. It was built on the site of a Roman fortress by William the Conqueror. There’s also a preserved Victorian prison –see where public executions took place and the burial site of the unlucky felons. Lincoln ishome to an original copy of the Magna Carta (1215) and the Charter of the Forest (1217), too.
There’s so much to pack into your visit – The Collection museum, Usher Gallery, Bishops’ Palace, Roman waterways and Museum of Lincolnshire Life, to name a few. Plus, it’s worth taking the time to stroll through the city, which has lots of cosy cafés and restaurants. This year marks 800 years since King John signed the Charter of the Forest.
Explore LincolnWith the Romans, Normans and historic charters, as well as the picture-postcard surrounding countryside, Lincoln is a wonderful place to visit. It is packed with 2000 years of history and heritage and some fantastic museums, galleries and libraries. But, despite its cobbled charm, Lincoln is also very much a city of today, with great shopping, restaurants, bars and cafés.
