There’s so much to do nearby. You could pop in to see the historical estates of Tatton Park, with its Tudor buildings, Dunham Massey Hall and the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s home, Chatsworth House. Jodrell Bank space exploration centre is close, too, as is the Quarry Bank Mill textile museum. There are numerous walking trails around here – head for the famous spa town of Buxton and taste the mineral water. Or visit Bakewell and sample an original Bakewell tart.

The break includes a three-course, five-choice dinner with coffee each evening. Guests can book their preferred dining times when they check in.

Prices from £250 per person, based on two sharing. A single supplement is payable, £30 per night. Guests wishing to play golf are advised to call the golf shop on 01625 575626 to book – mention that you’re a hotel resident and you’ll get a discount on green fees.

Family rooms are subject to availability. Children under 13 are accommodated free of charge when sharing with two adults; children under five are not charged for food, and children from five – 13 are half price for breakfast. A children’s menu is available.

About Shrigley Hall Hotel

This fine house was constructed in 1825 for William Turner, a mill owner and MP for Blackburn. It’s clear the house was built to impress – the magnificent staircase climbs up to a spectacular circular skylight. Look out for the Turner coat of arms above the main entrance.

Golf Course

Shrigley’s 18-hole par-71 golf course was designed by Donald Steel, who has worked on every Open Championship venue in the country. It’s open to residents and local members, and the course – which goes though woodland and parkland –  is a real challenge for even the most experienced golfers.
