9.15am to 6pm, Wednesday 27 June 2018
How about joining Boundless Bath and Bristol Group on a day trip to the Willows and Wetlands Visitor Centre at Stoke St Gregory on the Somerset Levels on 27 June 2018?
Coach transport will be provided, leaving Keynsham (the old Fry's factory) at 9.15 am for the hour or so's journey to the Centre, which is owned and run by the Coate family, who have been growing willow on the Somerset Levels since 1819.
On arrival we will find a warm welcome and will initially have some free time to sit down in the excellent on site café for a coffee (not included in the price). Duly refreshed, there will then be guided tours and talks during which we will find out about the history and art of willow growing and basketmaking. There will also be plenty more free time to take a gentle walk around the withy beds or a longer circular walk along the River Tone where glorious views across the moors can be enjoyed and you may also spot some interesting wildlife. So bring some sensible shoes!
If all that sounds too much like hard work there is also the opportunity for a little tasteful retail therapy at the Centre's own "Willow Shop" - where baskets ranging from the decorative to the practical are for sale, and other local shops such as a deli and souvenir shop, and there is the Basket Museum to browse, too. Last but not least, amongst all this activity, a buffet-style lunch will be provided.
We would expect to be back in Keynsham by 6pm.
£23 per head price includes coach travel, guided tours/talks and lunch.
