9am to 4.30pm, Wednesday 22 August 2018Join us for what promises to be a pleasant and interesting visit to Stanway House a hidden gem sitting in a sheltered location at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment and surrounded by gardens and extensive parkland. The house is an outstanding example of a Jacobean manor house originally owned by Tewkesbury Abbey and now by the Earls of Wemyss who still live there. This gives the feel of a family home though little has changed over the centuries.
The extensive grounds include the 18th century water garden the main attraction being the single jet fountain which rises magnificently to over 300ft making it the tallest fountain in Britain, the second tallest in Europe and the world's tallest gravity fed fountain. A sight not to be missed!
We will depart by coach from the Somerdale site Keynsham at 9am travelling to Evesham for a lunch break, after which we will take the short journey to Stanway for our 90 minute tour. Following this tea/coffee and cake will be served in the house. We will then be free to enjoy the grounds and watch the fountain play. We will depart at approximately 4.30pm for our return to Keynsham.
Cars may be left at the Somerdale site free of charge.
£21 which includes a guided tour, tea/coffee and cake, as well as coach travel.
