7pm to 9pm Thursday 17 October 2019,
Changing Times: The Impact of Total War in Wiltshire and its effects Post-War, 1939- By Julie Davis 1955.
Julie has worked at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre since 2007, originally as Local Studies Assistant, before becoming County Local Studies Librarian in 2016. Her previous jobs have included working at a number of Wiltshire Museums and Historic England, Swindon.
The talk is a culmination of research which began with her Masters dissertation and ended with her book: From Blackout to Bungalows.
Changing Times explores a range of issues on the Home Front which affected the county and its people, from an influx of ‘visitors’ to wartime working, civil defence duties, planning and construction. The impact of war also left its mark in the post-war world; this aspect will also be explored.
After the talk there will be an opportunity for questions and free Light refreshments.
Free parking is also available at the Hotel.
