The AGM will be followed by a talk “Scarborough’s Parks and Pleasure Grounds” given by Roger Burnett who is the Community Environment Officer for Scarborough Borough Council.
This is a historical look at the development of Scarborough’s parks from the late eighteen hundreds to the nineteen sixties.It covers a lot of the people who developed them, links to Yorkshire based nurseries and the wider national horticultural fraternity.Historical slides of the more famous gardens will be shown, including, Peasholm Park, Valley and Southcliff gardens, the Mere and the open air theatre. Roger will also be glad to answer any general gardening questions.
