Coach Trip to Wentworth Woodhouse!
Join us on this excursion to this Grade 1 listed country house, which is linked with the history of the great aristocratic families - the Wentworths, Watsons and Fitzwilliams. It is considered to be the largest privately owned residence in the uk, and has been used for a wide variety of filming, including Victoria, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Pride and prejudice etc. Entry to the house and gardens is by guided tour only.
The morning tour comprises an hour long tour of the formal state rooms, encompassing the rise and fall of the house, from it's beginnings in the 1600's to it's time as a family home and teacher training college, right through to the present day under the ownership of the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust. In the afternoon we take the Garden Tour which is approximately 1-1/4 hours long and takes in long herbaceous borders and historic monuments, and also, new for 2019, the historic walled garden which used to be part of the Wentworth Woodhouse estate, but is now owned by a garden centre.
The coach is leaving from the Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel, Shipton Rd, York YO30 1XW at 9.30am and will return at approximately 4.45pm. There is plenty of parking at the hotel.
Please note that the state rooms are on the first floor. There is no lift and the staircase has 24 shallow steps. Lunch is not included. You can either take your own food to eat on the coach or the tea rooms provide light lunch options such as jacket potatoes, sandwiches, cakes etc.
