When we think of Industrial Britain, we often picture coal mines, mills, factories and the tough conditions faced by the people who worked in them. But what happened when the working day was over, especially at Christmas?
For the men and women who powered Britain’s industrial revolution, the festive season offered a welcome chance to relax, socialise and celebrate with family, friends and neighbours. Industrial communities developed their own traditions, from festive food and drink to parties, church services, shopping and all important trips to the pub!
Join travel writer Luke Waterson for a fascinating and festive journey into Christmas in Industrial Britain. Discover how workers celebrated the season, what they ate and drank, where they went for entertainment and how communities came together when the factories and mills closed their doors.
