About this event
Join us for an inspiring online event with the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) and discover how to create your very own wetland at home.
Whether you have a spacious garden, a small backyard, or even a courtyard, wetlands can be designed to fit a range of spaces — and they’re one of the most powerful ways to support wildlife and improve biodiversity. In this interactive session, one of WWT’s leading wetland experts will guide you through the essentials of planning, designing and building a thriving wetland habitat at home.
You’ll learn how wetlands naturally filter water, reduce flooding risk, and create sanctuary spaces for birds, amphibians, pollinators and other wildlife. The session will cover practical tips on choosing the right plants, creating varied water depths, encouraging biodiversity year-round, and maintaining your wetland with minimal intervention.
There’ll also be a live Q&A, giving you the chance to ask questions specific to your space and climate.
By the end of the event, you’ll feel confident to start your own wetland project — creating a beautiful, living landscape that benefits both nature and you.
Perfect for gardeners, wildlife enthusiasts, and anyone passionate about making a positive impact from home.
About the Author
WWT
For over 75 years, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) has been a global leader in wetland conservation, restoration and creation. Founded in 1946 by conservationist and artist Sir Peter Scott, WWT combines science, practical habitat management and public engagement to protect wetlands and the wildlife that depends on them.
Today, WWT manages nine world class wetland centres across the UK and works internationally to restore degraded landscapes, create climate resilient wetlands and unlock the power of nature based solutions. Their experts advise governments, businesses and communities on wetland design, biodiversity enhancement, flood management and water quality improvement.
From large scale habitat restoration projects to helping communities create smaller wetlands in urban and rural spaces, WWT brings decades of hands on experience and research led insight. Their work demonstrates how wetlands can support wildlife, store carbon, reduce flood risk and improve.
