You probably haven’t heard of her, but Virginia Hall changed the course of the Second World War. Born in Baltimore, Virginia worked as a British spy deep behind enemy lines in France, organising resistance fighters and undermining the German occupation. Eventually her cover was blown and, despite a significant physical disability, she made a dramatic escape across the Pyrenees to Spain.
Joining us for this member-exclusive event will be bestselling author Sonia Purnell, whose biography about Virginia tells the story of her life and work. Sonia has written books on Clementine Churchill and Boris Johnson, and we’ll be giving away five copies of A Woman of No Importance on the night.
