About the talk

Join fellow Boundless members for a fascinating talk exploring a dramatic and often-overlooked chapter of British history.

King Charles I has been executed, yet Royalist strongholds still remain, threatening Parliament’s grip on power. One such stronghold lies far from the mainland on the Isles of Scilly, twenty-eight miles into the Atlantic beyond Land’s End. As tensions rise, the United Provinces of the Netherlands become involved, and a state of war emerges.

Our speaker will recount how Parliament ordered a force of ships and soldiers to subdue the islands and remove the Royalists once and for all. Through amphibious assaults, the destruction of a castle, the capture of one island, and the siege of another, the campaign unfolds in dramatic fashion, but was peace truly restored in the end?

Following the talk, drinks and biscuits will be provided, offering an opportunity to relax and chat with fellow members.

Everyone is welcome to join us for what promises to be an engaging and informative evening.
