About the talk

Join fellow Boundless members this Bonfire season for an intriguing talk by Gareth Howell.

“Remember, remember the 5th of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot. I can think of no rhyme and no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.”

Gareth takes the audience through the infamous plot, examining the evidence and asking whether the government may have been complicit for its own reasons. The story begins with the accession of King James and follows the course of this notorious conspiracy, exploring whether it could ever have succeeded and what the consequences might have been.

Gareth recently moved to Gloucester after being a popular speaker in Nottingham for over a decade. He has regularly appeared on BBC Radio Nottingham as a historical and political adviser, covering events such as the resignation of Boris Johnson and the first Truss vs Sunak debate. He has also spoken on topics ranging from Richard III to the Home Guard and the Easter Rising, and has appeared on BBC Ulster. In addition, Gareth is a speaker for several cruise ship lines.

Refreshments will be available as usual. Free parking is provided, but please remember to register your car on arrival at reception. There will also be opportunities to learn about future events, view past club magazines, and socialise in the bar.

All members, along with family and friends, are warmly invited to join this fascinating talk.
