Big Garden Birdwatch
23-25 January, gardens across the UK
The Big Garden Birdwatch is an annual tradition that is enjoyed by both seasoned birdwatchers and birding beginners. In 2025, 1,211,260 were counted over the Birdwatch weekend, with house sparrow the most commonly spotted bird.
It’s free and easy to take part; simply spend an hour watching and recording any birds that you see in your garden and then submit your tally online. The data plays an important role in building a snapshot of the UK’s birdlife and supports ongoing conservation efforts.

Watch the London New Year's Day Parade
London, 1 January
Ring in 2026 at one of the world’s largest New Year’s Day parades in the heart of London. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, the London Parade transforms the city’s iconic streets into a lively carnival of music and entertainment along the 2.2-mile route.

Rev your engines at Vintage Stony

Drive into the New Year in style at Vintage Stony, the much-loved classic car and motorcycle festival near Milton Keynes. On 1 January, Stony Stratford’s Market Square bursts into life with the nostalgic charm of pre-1940s vehicles, as beautifully restored cars and motorbikes line the streets for visitors to admire.
A highlight of the event is the famous minute of noise at midday, when every engine revs in unison — a joyful, thunderous salute to the year ahead.

Watch New Year's Day Bath Race & Classic Cars on the Quay
