Swerve summer’s crowds and enjoy lower prices with an off-season Eurocamp stay – what’s more, Boundless members get an extra discount.

As Europe’s midsummer temperatures soar and prices follow suit it makes sense to swap the traditional travel months of July and August for an alternative. Holidaying in the shoulder seasons is not only cheaper, but quieter too, so you can sightsee or sunbathe without the crowds.

Eurocamp’s portfolio of hundreds of holiday parks across the continent brings a host of off-season possibilities, with the option to stay in fully-equipped holiday homes and lodges as well as tents. Whether you’re looking to travel in spring, autumn or winter, get some inspiration for your next Eurocamp holiday below.

Best Eurocamp for city breaks

River and buildings

Why visit Paris in the sizzling summertime when you could stroll along the Seine on a frosty morning, see the Tuileries garden festooned with spring blossom or explore the lanes of Montmartre garlanded with autumn’s russet leaves?

For this four-season city, stay at the open-year-round Eurocamp Paris-Est, which sits in woodland on the banks of the River Marne, less than eight miles from the centre. You can pack in all the iconic sights, including the newly reopened Notre Dame Cathedral, fresh from extensive repairs following 2019’s devastating fire, and the Pompidou Centre before it closes for a five-year renovation.

This relaxed holiday park has a playground and ping pong tables, though the real USP is the convenient location. Nearby you’ll find plenty of restaurants within walking distance, so you can enjoy French flavours every night.

If you’re visiting with the kids, the site is also only half an hour from Disneyland Paris too.

Best Eurocamp for beaches

White sandy beach and deckchairs

The name is a giveaway. Costa Dorada means ‘golden coast’ in Spanish, and the beaches of this region in southern Catalonia are wide, sandy and burnished yellow.

Sheltered by the surrounding mountains and bathed in balmy sunshine, this region is warm enough for a beach holiday in the shoulder seasons, and Eurocamp Playa Montroig sits right on a whole kilometre of groomed golden powder. Have a game of beach volleyball or football, hire a kayak or pedalo, or simply lay out your towel and relax.

Open from late March to late October, this large park has great facilities, including a complex with four pools – one heated, which is particularly handy out of season – and six waterslides. Alongside football, tennis and padel courts you’ll find table tennis and mini-golf, plus evening entertainment and a handful of restaurants and bars, so you could spend your whole holiday on site.

If you fancy venturing further afield, both the Port Aventura theme park and the vibrant city of Tarragona, packed with Roman remains, are just a 20-minute drive away.

Best Eurocamp for couples

Without the tyranny of the school holidays to observe, shoulder season travel is a no-brainer for the child-free – June and September are the nicest months to be almost anywhere in Europe.

And with its glorious white-sand beaches, hilltop villages, coastal citadels and cuisine that takes inspiration from both France and Italy, Corsica is a sure-fire hit for a romantic getaway. Sitting right on the beach near Ghisonaccia on the south east coast, Eurocamp Arinella Bianca Village is open from April to October – mirroring the season for direct flights from the UK.

This elegant site caters well to couples, with its adults-only spa and balneotherapy zone, featuring tranquil pools, heated Jacuzzis and peaceful loungers. Pamper yourself with an upgraded stay; there are glamping tents on offer, plus Ultimate chalets, the smartest of Eurocamp’s holiday home accommodations, with coffee machines and covered patios for alfresco dining.

Best Eurocamp for families

If you’re travelling with the kids in shoulder season it’s risky to be at the whim of the weather gods, which is why choosing a park with indoor activities and near all-weather attractions is a safe bet.

Eurocamp Duinrell in the Netherlands ticks all these boxes – there’s a free on-site theme park with more than 40 rides and attractions, and discounted access to Tiki Pool, Holland’s biggest indoor waterpark, with 21 slides and a tropical splash zone. The Arcade is home to more than 80 games, and the pub has a mini bowling alley, air hockey and pool tables. Amsterdam is 45 minutes away by car, with its interactive Nemo Science Museum and excellent zoo.

When the sun shines, there are padel courts, table tennis, volleyball and boules to have a go at, plus hiking and cycling trails through Duinrell’s forest or to the long sandy Wassenaarse Slag beach – bikes can be rented on site.

The largest holiday homes sleep up to eight, and the park opens from early April to early November, making this an option at Easter and for both May and October half-term trips.

Best Eurocamp for mountains

Mountain holiday resort

For multi-season travel mountains make perfect sense, and at Eurocamp Le Belledone you can enjoy two versions of the Alps.

Hike among meadows of buttercups and gentians or raft on rivers swelled by glacial meltwater in the spring, or book during the winter opening period and come here to ski – a lift to Oz-en-Oisans, part of the snow-sure Alpe d’Huez ski area – is just 10 minutes away. With 111 slopes, from beginner right up to advanced – including the longest black run in Europe – it suits all levels of experience.

There’s a heated pool, tennis courts and a bike maintenance workshop if you come in spring; in winter there’s a sauna and heated ski lockers on offer, plus evening activities such as marshmallow toasting and mulled wine tasting too.
