About the talk

Join fellow Boundless members for another insightful talk by Gloria Camino on the beauty and mystery of the great Inca citadel, Machu Picchu.

Embark on a captivating exploration of the Inca civilisation, delving into the geographical and historical context that gave rise to this remarkable site. Discover Machu Picchu’s profound meaning, its harmonious relationship with the surrounding mountains, its ingenious adaptation to the environment, and the purpose behind its carefully chosen location.

The talk also covers the explorations and visits to the site before and during its “discovery” in 1911. As Machu Picchu was never found by the Spaniards, it remains the most complete and best-preserved Inca settlement in the world. Was it a royal Inca estate, or perhaps a kind of university where the wisest in the empire gathered to share knowledge and practise skills in astronomy, engineering, agriculture, and more? This talk offers an exciting, academically grounded insight into this extraordinary setting, based on extensive research and documentation.

Refreshments will be available as usual. Free parking is provided, but please remember to register your car on arrival at reception. There will also be opportunities to learn about future events, view past club magazines, and socialise in the bar.

All members, along with family and friends, are warmly invited to join this fascinating talk.
