Haven Perran Sands, Cornwall – perfect for outdoor-loving families

If you want to catch a wave this holiday park has direct access to Perran Sands, an ideal spot for lovers of surfing. Pack a beach bag and take an ambling walk down a zig zagging path to reach the RNLI patrolled shoreline. A bonus for families with pets is that this sandy beach is dog-friendly all year round.

The campsite’s grass and hard standing pitches are nestled in among sand dunes at the top of the cliff, giving children plenty of space to explore. And if you have the energy to head off site, you’ll find popular attractions like Newquay Zoo, Healey’s Cyder Farm and Camel Creek Adventure Park a short drive away. Stonehenge Campsite, Wiltshire – ideal for sightseeing and fireside conversation

If seeing historic sites is a must during your caravan or motorhome adventures, then you’ll love Stonehenge Campsite. This independent site is the closest place to pitch to the iconic World Heritage Site, which is only five miles away. 

Staying here you’re also within an hour’s drive of Avebury, Old Sarum and the gothic cathedral city of Salisbury. The campsite comes with excellent hard standing pitches or a grass field where you can gather around one of the two campfires with friends. There’s also a small shop for topping up on essential supplies and the site wardens are experts on where to find the best local farm produce.

The site’s small toilet block appears basic from the outside but is surprisingly modern once you step through the door. There’s a small charge for the hot showers but, with all proceeds going to the local Air Ambulance Service, it’s money well spent.

Glen Nevis Campsite, Scotland – perfect for couples seeking outdoor adventure

When it comes to camping backdrops, they don’t come much more epic than Ben Nevis. Whether you want the challenge of climbing this Highland peak or a gentler adventure spotting wildlife in its foothills, Glen Nevis Camping and Caravanning Park is the ideal base.

It’s a large campsite with great facilities including its own restaurant and bar, brimming with Scottish hospitality. And if you’ve always wanted to try a haggis, it’s on the menu here. Caemawr Farm, Llanelli – a quiet spot for couples with glorious coastal views

If your idea of the perfect campsite is one with a sea view, then you can’t go wrong booking Caemawr Farm in South Wales. It’s a Camping and Caravanning Club-certified site, which means you’ll never have to share the vista with more than a handful of other campers.

Pick a spot at the top of the huge field to make the most of 180-degree views of the River Loughor out towards the Gower Peninsular and Bristol Channel. 

Caemawr Farm is also on the Millennium Coastal Path, so is ideal for cyclists and walkers. One of the best places to visit close by is Pembury Country Park. This 500-acre beauty spot comes with eight miles of sandy beach stretching out for as far as you can see.

Dundonald Touring Park, County Down – superb for families with teens

If you are holidaying with teenagers, then Dundonald Touring Park is bound to meet with their approval. 

As well as being just five miles from the centre of Belfast, it’s right opposite a leisure complex which features an ice rink, climbing wall and cinema. The campsite’s free Wi-Fi is also top notch. What more could the teens ask for?

Once you’ve pitched you can easily access public transport to explore the city or drive out into the County Down countryside. Castle Espies Wetland Centre – a haven for migrating birds – is also 15 minutes away. And if you prefer to practice your swing then there are no less than five excellent golf courses within half an hour of the site.
