About the breakFriday 3 - Monday 6 July 2026The 4-star Imperial Hotel is a charming retreat nestled in the heart of Barnstaple in North Devon. With its AA rosette award-winning restaurant and views over the River Taw, the hotel combines traditional warmth and modern comforts, offering a perfect balance of luxury and relaxation. What's includedIncluded in this break are three nights of 4-course, table d'hôte dinners including tea and coffee, and a full English breakfast each day, along with a welcome drink reception with a glass of house wine on the first evening. If you prefer to eat from the bistro menu in the Colours Bar, you can do so with an allowance of £32 per person. Porterage is also included throughout the break. |
What to do in the local areaYour days are free for you to explore at your own pace. In Barnstaple, why not head to the Pannier Market, one of the oldest markets in Britain, offering an array of local produce, crafts, antiques, and more. For history enthusiasts, the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon offers some fascinating exhibits and displays and the historic Queen's Theatre also hosts a variety of performances, including plays, concerts, and comedy shows. Venturing outside of Barnstaple, you’ll find the stunning Exmoor National Park, ideal for scenic hikes, wildlife spotting, and taking in the breathtaking landscapes. Exmoor Zoo is also nearby and makes for a great day out for everyone. Beach lovers will enjoy Saunton Sands, renowned for its golden sands and excellent surfing conditions. Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum, with its grand Regency house, extensive collection of horse-drawn vehicles, and beautiful gardens, is perfect for a relaxing day out. For cycling or walking enthusiasts, the Tarka Trail provides picturesque routes inspired by the famous novel "Tarka the Otter," and features tranquil countryside, wooded river valleys, rugged moorland, and dramatic coastline, offering a great, sustainable way to explore the area. The Quince Honey Farm offers a unique experience, with guided tours that allow you to learn about honeybees and take a closer look inside the working hives, getting close to living bees without needing protective equipment. Explore the picturesque Clovelly Village with its steep cobbled streets, historic harbor, and traditional cottages, or visit the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, known as “Little Switzerland,” connected by a unique cliff railway and surrounded by stunning coastal scenery. Finally, the RHS Garden Rosemoor offers an enchanting experience with its diverse plant collections, woodland garden, and seasonal events.
