About the breakMonday 23 - 27 August 2027Nestled in the picturesque County Durham, the 4-star Blackwell Grange Hotel is a stunning 17th-century manor, blending historic charm with modern luxury. Surrounded by woodland parkland, the hotel makes the perfect base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors, Durham and the County Durham countryside. What's includedIncluded in this break are dinner, bed and breakfast as well as a Gala dinner and DJ entertainment on the Wednesday evening. You will receive a complimentary drink at the welcome reception. Also included is an excursion to Beamish Living Museum. |
ExcursionYou'll head off on a coach excursion to explore Beamish, the living museum of the North. Set within 350 acres of beautiful County Durham countryside, Beamish brings the history of North East England to life through immersive exhibits, historic buildings, and costumed staff. Visitors can step back in time and explore immersive exhibitions including towns, landscapes, villages and farms from the 1820s to the 1950s, as well as ride on heritage trams and buses around the site. There are traditional shops, including a sweet shop, bakery, tea rooms, and cafés where you can sample historic treats and local favourites. What to do in the local areaCounty Durham offers a plethora of activities and sights for everyone to enjoy. Head to Durham city for the day (just a 30-minute journey on public transport), where you can explore Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here, you can marvel at the stunning architecture and take insightful guided tours. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the River Wear, or if you're feeling adventurous hire a boat and enjoy a leisurely cruise. For those who enjoy shopping, Durham Market is an exciting hub of shops, crafts and cafes. Nature lovers will find plenty to enjoy in County Durham. The Durham Botanic Garden, located on the Durham University campus, offers a tranquil escape with its diverse plant collections from around the world. High Force Waterfall, one of England’s most spectacular waterfalls, is situated in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and makes for a breathtaking visit. Hardwick Park is another beautiful spot, perfect for a relaxing day out with its walking trails, lake, and visitor centre. For those interested in history and culture, the historic market town of Barnard Castle is a perfect day out. Explore the castle ruins (English Heritage) and visit the Bowes Museum, which houses an impressive art collection. The Locomotion Museum in Shildon provides a fascinating look into the history of railways with its vast collection of locomotives and artifacts. Finally, the medieval Raby Castle, Park, and Gardens (Historic Houses) is a fantastic day out for everyone. Auckland Castle, once the palace of the Prince Bishops of Durham, is another historical gem, offering rich history and beautiful surroundings. Additionally, the summer brings various food and drink festivals that showcase the best of regional produce. For a relaxing day by the sea, Seaham Beach is ideal, known for its sea glass and charming seaside town atmosphere. Alternatively, head to Hartlepool to visit one of its many beaches. I’ve never been to a social break before, what can I expect?
Social breaks are a relaxed and friendly way for Boundless members to come together, meet new people and visit new places. Activities vary from break to break and can include anything from a museum or garden visit, to activities at the hotel or just enjoying your free time. Groups are always pleased to welcome new faces.
Are the breaks guided?
Our social breaks are not guided, but we always have a volunteer host who is there to help with any questions you have, ensure you're comfortable and help to bring people together.
Can I attend the break alone?
Yes! Many of our members attend the breaks alone. It is a great opportunity to meet like minded people and socialise in a warm and inviting environment.
Can I bring a guest with me to the event?
In most cases, yes. Guests are welcome at social events, as long as one person attending is a Boundless member. There may be occasional exceptions, it’s always best to reach out and ask. You can used the contact details on the group’s home page or in the ‘How to book’ section of the event page.
