About the rallyThursday 17 September - Tuesday 22 September 2026Join fellow Boundless members for a relaxing five day camping and caravanning rally in Winchester this summer. Set just a quarter of a mile south of St Cross, on the southern edge of the city, this unique rally takes place on a historic cricket ground on the east side of the A333. Surrounded by peaceful countryside and rich heritage, it offers a wonderful setting for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The ground is owned by the trustees of St Cross Hospital, a remarkable medieval foundation just to the north. With its ancient almshouses and beautiful chapel, it provides a truly distinctive and atmospheric backdrop that adds to the charm of this location. Cricket has been played here since 1872, originally by the Rifle Brigade and later by the Green Jackets Club, who have leased the ground since 1885. Steeped in tradition, the site was once described as two meadows and now comprises two spacious cricket fields, each around six acres, known as the field and the other field. The original wooden pavilion, dating from 1886, was later rebuilt and reopened in 1970, while the nearby luncheon pavilion, first erected in 1904, has been restored and is once again in full use. Visitors can still enjoy a touch of Edwardian character, adding to the timeless appeal of the setting. During your stay, you will also have the opportunity to explore the historic city of Winchester, known for its magnificent cathedral, charming streets, and rich heritage. With a wide range of shops, cafes, and attractions nearby, there is something for everyone to enjoy. This rally offers the perfect combination of history, relaxation, and great company, making it an ideal getaway for family and friends. All are welcome. |
