Farnborough and Guildford Group
About the event
2.15pm to 4pm, Thursday 20 November 2025
The Farnborough and Guildford Group is inviting you to join them for a talk about the Royal Navy Battle of Lake Tanganyika.
The battle took place between 1915 and 1916 on a lake in the middle of Africa between RN gunboats (taken by train/tractor from Cape Town) and three German "warships" - the film "African Queen" was (loosely) based on the action. The RN force was commanded by a chap who was known to wear a skirt on occasion.
The talk will be given by Commander Tim Stoneman Royal Navy Retired who also gave the talk on The War of the Worlds.
