About this event
The lost villages of England
Once they were founded now they are lost..
Join Luke Waterson, award winning travel writer and novelist, for an unforgettable journey into Britain’s Deserted Medieval Villages the ghostly remains of once thriving communities that time, tide, and history have erased from the map.
In this exclusive Boundless talk, Luke takes you on a haunting adventure across the UK, from the windswept clearances of the Scottish Highlands to the abandoned streets of North Yorkshire and the drowned and sand swallowed settlements of East Anglia. Along the way, he reveals the fascinating and often tragic stories behind these vanished places: villages emptied by powerful landowners, seized by the Ministry of Defence, or simply reclaimed by the sea.
Although many of these lost villages have all but disappeared, their traces linger in half buried churches, forgotten footpaths, and windswept dunes where legend says the church bells still ring beneath the sand.
Discover the hidden history of these extraordinary places and ask yourself: what villages, towns or cities that we know, and love today might one day become the lost places of tomorrow?
Boundless members stay tuned until the end of the event for a chance to win a special giveaway on the night!
