Don’t miss this member-exclusive online event as we dive deep into the reality of what it’s like to live and work onboard a nuclear submarine as it undertakes a search-and-rescue mission. Navigating us through the evening will be Jonty Powis who, having served in the Royal Navy for 32 years, has taken part in many such missions. He also served on HMS Conqueror, the submarine which sank the General Belgrano during the Falklands conflict. In this fascinating talk, Jonty will be talking about the pressures and challenges faced by crew members serving on a nuclear sub, as well as looking at current issues including the recent Titan disaster.
Since leaving the Navy, Jonty’s varied career has taken him to the British Embassy in Washington and the MOD and Rolls-Royce, where he was instrumental in developing NATO’s submarine rescue system.
