About this event

Have you ever stood in front of the supermarket’s wall of wine feeling overwhelmed by choice, unsure where to begin, what you’ll enjoy, or whether you’re getting real value for money?

You’re not alone. And that’s where Master of Wine, author and wine educator Sam Caporn MW, better known as the Mistress of Wine, comes in.

In this engaging and informative online session, Sam will demystify the world of wine and give you the confidence to choose, taste and enjoy wine with far greater understanding. Drawing on her deep expertise and passion for making wine approachable, she will guide you through:

  • What the wine label really means and which details actually matter when choosing a bottle
  • Why wine tastes the way that it does, and how grape variety, climate and winemaking influence what’s in the glass
  • How to vary your wine choices throughout the year so they pair more naturally with seasonal foods, from spring through to winter
  • An introduction to The Wine Flavour Tree, Sam’s unique visual infographic that helps you map grape varieties to flavour profiles and better predict what you’ll enjoy
  • The difference between regional and varietal labelling, and how this knowledge can help you shop smarter
  • The four step wine tasting process, a simple and practical framework to help you taste wine more confidently and express what you like and why

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your appreciation, this is a session not to be missed. Sam will take you on a journey from grape to glass, empowering you to move from wine novice to confident, informed drinker, all from the comfort of your own home.

Boundless members stay tuned to be in with a chance of winning a copy of Sams book at the end of the event.

Meet the speaker - Sam Caporn

My wine career has been pleasing varied, including having been Tastings Co-ordinator for Wine Magazine (which is where I started my MW journey; possibly the best role in the country for tasting regularly with experts) and a wine buyer for Direct Wines, covering Australia, New Zealand, the Loire, Champagne and Central and Eastern Europe. This involved a lot of travelling and blending various liquids with the winemakers to create own-label and bespoke wines. In 2011 I became an MW – and was awarded The Madame Bollinger Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Practical Paper – and also a mother. The two things combined led to my decision to leave full-time corporate life and become a freelance consultant; The Mistress of Wine. Today that involves being an ambassador for a discount retailer, one of six Co-Chairs for the International Wine Challenge, a corporate wine host, lead judge for Which? Magazine’s tasting panels and a wine writer. My debut book ‘The Wine Flavour Guide’ was published in 2024 by Penguin Random House and was one of only three books (and the only wine book) to be Shortlisted for the F&M Debut Drink Book Award.
