Monet's Garden and the Palace of Versailles

A trip to Normandy and the lovingly restored Monet’s Garden at Giverny is a source of as much pleasure today as it was to the founder of French Impressionist painting himself. Monet lived here until his death in 1929, and the flower and water gardens inspired some of his most famous works.

The day continues with a visit to Versailles, home of the exquisite palace and gardens – Louis XIII's old hunting pavilion, which was transformed and extended by his son, Louis XIV in the 17th century. No expense was spared in the creation of what has to be one of the world's most opulent châteaux, best known for its Hall of Mirrors, which was previously used for lavish celebrations.

Evening illuminated Paris tour

Paris is even more magical at night, when it becomes a sparkling city of a thousand lights. Admire the illuminated Eiffel Tower and stroll down the glittering Champs Elysée, as we explore the city in the evening.

Fontainebleau

This palace is one of the largest in France and was home to numerous monarchs. It has been expanded extensively over time, which only adds to its unique quality, as it features many different architectural styles. For example, parts of the original château date as far back as the 12th century, while the most recent parts were worked on in the mid-19th century. There are more than 1500 rooms, many of which are open to the public.

There are apartments available to view, too, such as the two Marie Antoinette boudoirs, the Papal apartment, the guest apartments of the court of Napoleon III and more. There are also four museums and a large collection of artefacts, including Napoleon’s throne, Marie Antoinette’s bed and the Duke of Orleans’ commemorative wedding cabinet.
