About the break

Sunday 19 July to Tuesday 21 July 2026

Join the Social Breaks and Holidays Group on a two night break to Canterbury.

  • Two nights dinner, bed and breakfast.
  • Pre-dinner welcome drink.
  • Hotel in a prime location for exploring the City.
  • Free Wi-Fi and free onsite parking.

Enjoy two nights at the grand Victorian Abbots Barton Hotel, set in two acres of landscaped gardens and ideally located just a short walk from Canterbury town centre.

You will be free to explore the city yourself and there is plenty to see and do in this medieval City. There are three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Canterbury, including Canterbury Cathedral, St Martin's Church and St Augustine's Abbey, all of which are reachable within a 20 minute walk from the hotel. The Canterbury Roman Museum and The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge are also a short walk away.

If you feel like taking to the water, you can take a punt or a historic boat trip along the River Stour, check out Canterbury Punting Co, Canterbury Historic River Tours and Westgate Punts. There is also a selection of vineyards in and around Canterbury, from the family-run Chartham Vineyard to the internationally recognised Simpsons Wine Estate.

For anyone wanting to get out into nature, Blean Woods National Nature Reserve is a 30 minute drive from the hotel. You can explore yourself or take a guided tour, but keep an eye out for bison, pigs and Exmoor ponies! Or you can take a walk along the Crab and Winkle Way.

The seaside towns of Whitstable and Herne Bay are both about a half hours drive from the hotel, why not take a trip and try out one of Whitstable's famous native oysters or take in the award-winning coastline of Herne Bay.

There is also an abundance of independent shops, cafes and restaurants for you mosey around and Whitefriars Shopping Centre if you're up for some retail therapy.
