Swindon Group
About the event
7pm to 9.30pm, Thursday 19 February 2026
Join the Swindon Group for another fascinating talk - 'Moscow to St. Petersburg' by John Farrow.
John will pictorially describe his experiences of travelling from Moscow to St Petersburg along the Moscow Canal and the rivers Volga and Neva including why the women look so glum! He will show some key sites in the two cities, especially a surprising number of churches, and amazing places visited on the way.
John Farrow was a Government research chemist before joining one of the Research Councils in Swindon in the late 1970s. When he retired, he went on a Swindon College tour guide training course and is now a National Trust tour guide at Ashdown House and Avebury stone circle and Manor House. He also joined the Swindon Branch of the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust and was Branch Secretary for over 15 years. He has also helped maintain and restore the Canal at Royal Wootton Bassett and is a keen supporter giving talks about the Canal and a variety of other topics.
Refreshments will be available as usual. There is also free parking but do remember to register your car on arrival at reception. You’ll also find information on future events, opportunities to view past club magazines, and time to socialise in the bar.
