In a peaceful location near to the village of Bassenthwaite in the heart of the North Lakes is the newest addition to our Boundless Breaks portfolio. Composed of a delightful collection of converted cottages and a farmhouse, Parkergate is the ideal base for exploring the area. The cottages have a long history dating back to the 18th century - the main house itself was built in 1767 and is a Grade II Listed Building. Surrounded by fields of sheep and cattle as well as some much-loved nesting ospreys, Parkergate provides the perfect nature packed experience of the Lake District.

Parkergate is in an ideal location for exploring all the Lakes, the Solway Coast, the historic border city of Carlisle and even Hadrian's Roman Wall. It benefits from one of the best locations in the whole of Cumbria for enjoying the spectacular Lakeland sunsets over the North West fells.
Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater
Both are close by and provide excellent water sports opportunities. Derwentwater Marina offers windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, rowing and powered boats for hire as well as tuition. Bassenthwaite Sailing Club offers the opportunity for more experienced sailing for guests with their own sailing dinghy. Nichol End Marine is also nearby, and is one of the most beautiful settings in the country, with a range of activities both on and off the water.
Keswick town centre itself, with its shops, restaurants and inns is only 7 miles away and there’s a regular bus service on the nearby road to the cottages.
For those looking to feel the wind in their hair, the scenery of the Lake District National Park is second to none. Skiddaw, Blencathra, the Northern Caldbeck Fells and Coledale Fells are all in close proximity and it is possible to climb Skiddaw directly from Parkergate. For the less energetic, there are lovely walks around the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake and along the River Derwent, as well as lower, easier peaks such as Dodd and Binsey.
Parkergate is located not far from the well-known Lake District Ospreys' nesting site, after the return in 2008 of Cumbria's most popular birds. Occasionnally, from the cottages you can see them fly right past the window on their way to a favourite fishing site at Overwater! The view point at Dodd Wood is just down the road from Parkergate, where there are powerful telescopes available to view the magnificent birds fishing. You can also take in the Dodd Wood Forest Trails.
