Join the Swindon Group for another fascinating talk by Gareth Howell.
Remember, Remember the 5th of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot, I can think of no rhyme and no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.
The talk takes the audience through the plot, but examines the evidence and asks the question was the government complicit in the plot for reasons of its own. We start our story with the accession of the new King James, and we then follow the story of this notorious plot, before asking if it could ever have succeeded, and what its consequences might have been.
Gareth recently moved to Gloucester, after being a popular speaker in Nottingham for over a decade. Regularly appearing on BBC Radio Nottingham as an historical adviser, also as a Politics advisor, covering the resignation of Boris Johnson and the first Truss vs Sunak debate. He has spoken on BBC Notts on topics as diverse as Richard 3rd, the tanks, the home guard and the Easter Rising (also appearing on a programme with BBC Ulster). He is a speaker for a number of Cruise ship lines too.
Refreshments will be available as usual. There is also free parking but do remember to register your car on arrival at reception. You’ll also find information on future events, opportunities to view past club magazines, and time to socialise in the bar.
