Experience staying in a Superior room in this classic 4 star family run hotel with excellent food in the historic spa town of Llandrindod Wells. As well as full Welsh buffet breakfasts we will be dining as a group in a private room in the evenings choosing from a 3 course menu with 5 choices per course and tea or coffee. On the first night there will be a welcome drink too. During our break we will be entertained by a local Welsh choir on one evening and we can dance the night away at the disco on the last night!
Check in to rooms is from 4pm onwards but if you arrive earlier you can register with the hotel, then you are welcome to use the Rock Spa which has a 18m heated indoor swimming pool, thermal whirlpool spa, sauna, steam room and a fully equipped gym. Luxury spa treatments are available at extra cost but suggest booking in advance as these are very popular.
There are many walks in and around Llandrindod with the favourite being around the lake and woodland. Museums, bowls, tennis and golf are available in the town too or take a trip on the train.
A 25 minute drive from the hotel there is the scenic 72 square mile Elan Valley with dams and reservoirs in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Walk some of the 80 miles of trails which vary from flat to challenging, maybe bring or hire a bike or book a tour with a ranger. Alternatively just take a gentle stroll to enjoy the scenery then visit the tea room or the café for coffee and homemade cake.
Nearby attractions include The Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir with its 12 acres of gardens, 12th century abbey ruins and 52 room restored Gothic house, Gigrin Red Kite Feeding Station and Welsh Royal Crystal. Have a look at the website for The Metropole Hotel for many more things to see and do just a short distance away.Further afield there is Hay-On- Wye “The Town Of Books”, Brecon with its cathedral and perhaps a cruise on the canal, head to Aberystwyth on the coast to take a trip on the Victorian Cliff Railway and the steam-hauled, narrow gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway for a scenic journey to Devil’s Bridge.
The Metropole is popular with car enthusiasts as a base to travel the tremendous open roads throughout this region of Wales from high mountain passes such as Devil’s Staircase to the open roads such as the A44 from Rhayader to Aberystwyth. The scenery is spectacular and congestion minimal so perhaps another reason to visit.
