The York Group would like to invite you to join them for a talk on Bar Convent
Established in 1686 at a time when it was illegal to be Catholic, a group of religious sisters known as the Congregation of Jesus opened this secret convent. Their foundress Mary Ward, pioneered the idea of religious women working as missionaries, and part of that mission was to educate girls. Join us to hear a summary of the life of Mary Ward - 'the most famous Yorkshire woman you have never heard of' and the history of Bar Convent.
